Panel formed to fight Army diktat
Joint Action Committee demands revoking decision to close down major roads for civilians
Hyderabad: A Joint action committee consisting of colony welfare associations of Malkajgiri, Safilguda and Neredmet has been formed to fight against the closure of AOC roads by Army. The committee began protests on Sunday by staging dharna at Safilguda demanding to revoke the ban.
United Federation of Residents Welfare Association executive vice president B.T. Srinivasan said that the JAC is demanding Army to revoke the decision of closing down important roads leading from Safilguda to Secunderabad via AOC, Wellington Road, East Marredpally and West Marredpally from February 25 to civilian traffic.
“The decision would severely impact lakhs of citizens and alter their daily commuting to offices and schools. This has created a sense of fear and anxiety among citizens. The closing down of the important roads will cause great financial burden and stress amongst residents in adjoining colonies trying to reach Secunderabad while also creating heavy traffic jams on other roads that cannot handle additional traffic piling up on already congested roads,” said Mr Srinivasan.
Around 800 locals took part in the dharna on Sunday. It was decided to bring the issue to the notice of local elected representatives including corporators, MLAs, MPs and ministers and also to represent to Governor and local defence authorities and cantonment officials.
A Fcebook group “AOC Centre Secunderabad: An appeal” is also created.
