Anantapur: Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samiti (RPS) founder Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy demanded that the new capital in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh be set up in Kurnool. Launching his 48-hour deeksha in Kurnool on Monday, the RPS founder said that Rayalaseema was the only region neglected during all regimes while Telangana and Coastal areas were given enough priority and developed in key sectors. Stating that Rayalaseema people had sacrificed Kurnool, the capital of erstwhile AP, for the sake of development, the RPS leader said, "As the rulers again carved out Telangana with Hyderabad as capital, Kurnool should be made capital with out any debate." Quoting Sribagh agreement, Mr Rajasekhar Reddy recalled that the state capital was given to Rayalaseema region, while the High Court was given to Coastal region prior to merger of Telangana. He said the earlier status should be restored after state’s division.
