Chennai: Desperate to turn his fortunes around, off-spinner R. Ashwin has changed his bowling action. The Tamil Nadu cricketer revealed the new style in the Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on Wednesday sparking off the inevitable comparison with West Indian mystery spinner Sunil Narine. Sporting full sleeves, Ashwin surprised everyone with the revamped action more open than his regular sideon  when he was introduced as early as in the 13th over. He claimed wicket in his very first ball a flighted delivery that had Mominul Haque inside edge on to his pads before being stumped by Dinesh Karthik.
Mominul was Ashwin’s third wicket in his last nine ODI games. The tall spinner, who was dropped for both the Tests against the Kiwis, has been under immense scrutiny off late after his dismal show at South Africa and New Zealand. Not just from fans and media, even his coach Sunil Subramaniam criticised Ashwin in a scathing interview saying that “he has lost way”. Coming from a man whom Ashwin dedicated his seven-wicket haul to after a home Test against Australia last year incidentally on the back of a horrendous series against England it underlined the importance of rediscovering himself. Sunil is reportedly no longer working with Ashwin. The spinner was spotted working on new action at New Zealand during the Test series.
