Hyderabad: Though summer is yet to officially arrive, the heat is already stifling. And more worried about the rising temperatures are the politicians who are gearing up to start campaigning for the upcoming elections. With temperatures touching  32ºC to 34ºC already, Meteorological officials have predicted that summer this year is likely to be a scorcher with the temperatures rising to 45ºC to 47ºC. Officials pointed out that with the excessive deforestation in the past few months owing to Metro constructions etc., the heat was definitely setting in.
The first count of the trend of the Southwest monsoons this year is expected to be out by the last week of March. Vaakiti Sunita Lakshmi Reddy, the minister for women and child welfare and Narsapur MLA, said, “Drinking water problems are plenty during this time. We try and schedule rallies or public meetings in the early hours and in the afternoons we hold in-house meetings.” “ We have no option but to bear the brunt. I usually wear something in cotton and carry water.
“Last elections were also scheduled at a similar time. We are helpless as notifications are usually during this time,” she added. Charminar MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Qadri, said, “Irrespective of the heat or anything, we are forced to go door to door. We take small breaks in between, but there is no option. Party work is our priority and the heat does not affect us much.”
