Bihar bandh today as CM pushes for special status for state
Nitish Kumar renews his demand of special status for Bihar by beating on utensils
Patna: Stressing on the demand of special status for Bihar, chief minister Nitish Kumar called for a statewide bandh on Sunday.
According to media reports, Kumar will lead the protest march from his residence in Patna and will stage a sit-in protest under Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Gandhi Maidan for the whole day.
The Centre’s announcement to grant special status to newly formed state Telangana, carved out of Andhra Pradesh, impelled Kumar to renew his demand of special status for Bihar.
Reportedly, Kumar also made an appeal to residents to come out of their houses and beat on utensils for five minutes on the bandh day. He said beating of utensils was aimed at sending a voice of protest to the Union government.
Media reported, hundreds of JD(U) workers disrupted rail services and blocked roads across the state. Buses, trucks and other vehicles remained off the roads.
Kumar had termed the UPA government's decision to grant special category status to Seemandhra as 'betrayal' while 'ignoring' a similar demand made by his government.
