Cape Town: Michael Clarke declared Australia's innings on its overnight score of 494-7 as the tourists looked to make early inroads into South Africa's batting lineup on the third morning of the third test that began on Saturday at Newlands.

Rain had wiped out the second half of play Sunday, but also freshened up conditions leading Clarke to believe there will be some assistance for his fast bowlers on Monday morning. The declaration left Clarke unbeaten on 161 after a memorable innings in which he suffered numerous blows to the body from South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel.

David Warner was the other main contributor to the Australian total, having scored an aggressive 135 on the opening day of the series decider.
