Gold worth Rs 1.6 cr seized at airport
All the passengers were carrying a total of 2.10 kg of pure gold
Hyderabad- Customs officers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport seized 3.74 kg of gold worth Rs 1.6 crore on Wednesday from seven passengers, including three women. Abdul, Moomin, Dulkarni, and Asrafali, all natives of Tamil Nadu, arrived by Silk Air, MI 478, from Singapore.
“During frisking, it was found that these passengers were carrying metals inside their suitcases. A thorough check revealed small-sized gold biscuits inside mobile phone chargers and gold wires in rectangular-shaped pipes fitted inside the suitcases,” said a customs official.
The four passengers were carrying a total of 2.10 kg of pure gold. Meanwhile, Nasim Begum, Mehmooda and Zubeda, natives of Hyderabad, arrived from Dubai by Air India.
“When a rescanning was done, two women were found carrying gold in their dress. The other woman concealed it inside her trolley bag,” said an official.
They were carrying a total of 1.64 kg of pure gold. Customs officials said that while one woman was arrested and produced before the court, the others were let off.
