Men to be at receiving end of street harassment
Members of ‘Hyderabad for Feminism’, will visit public spaces to address issues of street harassment
Hyderabad: A social experiment called the “Mirror Mob” will be staged on the city’s streets on Saturday, International Women’s Day.
Members of ‘Hyderabad for Feminism’, a support group, will visit public spaces like bus stops, tea stalls, outside malls or parks and enact impromptu sessions of women harassing men to address issues of street harassment and mirror how it feels for women.
“The act is a compilation of street theatre and freeze mob in which about 64 women and 11 men have signed up so far. This experiment will be conducted at 15 locations from Nizam College to Toli Chowki.
We will start of by freezing (standing stationary) on the streets that will attract people’s attention and then enact a scene of harassment. This is not to teach the abusers only, but also the passers-by who remain mere spectators, when a woman gets harassed on street. We are going to do a role reversal and start a dialogue about this,” said Tejaswini Madhabhushi, a member of the group.
