The groom who chickened out over mutton

Bengaluru: Chicken biriyani, instead of mutton biriyani? Tut-tut! Call off the wedding!

This must be a new low, even for dowry-driven Indian weddings.    

Saifulla and Yasmin Taj were to be wed on Monday, but the previous night, Saifulla's family found out that Yasmin's family had had chicken biriyani prepared for the reception at the Golden Heritage Shaadi Mahal in Fraser Town. They demanded mutton biriyani, instead.

A verbal duel occurred, and for once, it was the bride's family -- not the groom's -- that called off the wedding. It asked the right question: If the groom's family couldn't digest a small change in the menu, how would they treat Yasmin after the wedding?    

Somebody did tell the K.G. Halli police about the incident, but the cops refused to intervene, saying they did not want to pre-empt a patch up between the two families.
