‘I want to break the myth’
Ajay, debuts as the hero in Adiyum Andamum which is a psychological thriller
They say every Friday will make or break an actor’s career. And in the case of television actor Ajay Rathnam, who is debuting as the hero in Adiyum Andamum, which is hitting the cinema halls this Friday, it is double the excitement and anxious moments for he happens to be part producer of the movie as well. “I am keeping my fingers crossed. I cannot but wait for AA to release,” he says.
Ajay who ruled the Chinna Thirai for seven years with his anti-hero role, Adhi, in Devyani’s mega soap, Kolangal, says, “In 2011, I started the movie under my own banner. I struggled, it was jinxed half way through. Then I met RSR Screens’ Ramani when things started moving in the right direction.”
AA is a psychological thriller and poetic love story, directed by Khaushik. Mithali and Kavitha Srinivasan are the female leads. Ajay says he is confident that his content is good and hence the movie should succeed. “I play Karan. The film has two different dimensions to it. I worked on the entire content and designed it. It is a debatable and thought provoking genre,” he says.
There is an unwritten law in K’town that TV actors are not taken seriously on the big screen. “I got acclaim from the stage, got recognised as a TV actor, and now my challenge is, will the audiences accept me as a silver screen star? That’s exactly what I want to prove. Can I be different and break it?” The young actor says that he is not obstinate about only playing the lead hero. “I am ready to accept any role where the content offers me scope to prove my mettle.”
