Congress' DNA runs through Jagan, he might return: Digvijay Singh
Congress leader said party unhappy over TRS decision of not to merge
Hyderabad: AICC General Secretary Digivijay Singh on Friday predicted that YSRCP President Jaganmohan Reddy might return to the Congress fold.
Meeting the media at the Hyderabad Press Club at Somajiguda on Friday, Digvijay Singh said Jagan had the 'DNA' of the Congress party. His grandfather and father (YSR) remained Congress loyalists till their last breath and Jagan too began his political career from the Congress party, Singh said. "Therefore, he might return to the parent party."
Digvijay Singh also expressed displeasure over former chief minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy leaving Congress to float his own party. "We are very disappointed by Kiran Kumar Reddy. He had promised to abide by the decision of the Congress high command and assured that he would never leave the Congress. He had also ruled out floating a new party," Singh said, adding the Congress respected all leaders who stood by the decision of high command over the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The AICC general secretary reminded that TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao had promised to merge his party after the formation of Telangana. He said that KCR's decision not to merge the party has surprised the Congress high command. He did not rule out the possibility of an alliance with the TRS and said the A K Antony committee would explore the option if TRS agreed for it.
Digivijay Singh also listed out promises and packages announced by the centre for both Telangana and Seemandhra regions. He said both states had the potential to register a speedy growth. He made a specific mention that all cases registered during the Telangana statehood agitation should be withdrawn.
Telangana PCC President Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Working President C Uttam Kumar Reddy were also present. Hyderabad Press Club president R Ravikanth Reddy welcomed the guests.
