HYDERABAD: The fate of the panchayat Raj elections in the state is in the hands of Supreme Court now. After holding a meeting with all the political parties on Thursday, the State Election Commission sent a report to the Supreme Court.

Now, the apex court which issued contempt notice to the Chief Secretary and the State Election Commission earlier for not issuing an election date, will take a final call on it.

Meanwhile, political parties expressed their unwillingness about conducting local elections before the   general elections as they are apprehensive of the results affecting their Assembly and Parliamentary aspirations.

When asked about the possibilities on the postponement of local elections, State Election Commissioner P. Ramakanth Reddy said, “Postponement will be unfavourable because the Central Security Forces, that would be deployed for the panchayat raj election, will have to leave for general elections in other states. However, the decision will be taken by the Supreme Court.”
