Policeman 'forgives' Umar to let him go with team to Dhaka

Karachi: A policeman has dropped charges of traffic violation against Umar Akmal to let him fly to Bangladesh for the ICC World Twenty20 and now wants the young Pakistan batsman do well for the country. Traffic warden Muhammad Zeeshan had filed a complaint against Umar for abusing and misbehaving with him during an incident in Lahore in February but forgave the cricketer.
"I have forgiven him as he is our national hero and I wanted him to go to Bangladesh with peace of mind. But I have told him he must perform well for Pakistan now," Zeeshan told PTI.
Police slapped several charges against Umar after the incident and filed a case against him in a magistrate’s court which gave bail to the player but had summoned him for a hearing on Friday.
Umar and his family including elder brother, Kamran earlier claimed that he was innocent and he was being harassed by the police. The incident took place in the Gulberg area when Umar was going to a University for a function. When the traffic warden stopped him for violating a traffic signal, allegedly Umar misbehaved with Zeeshan.
He was later arrested and put in jail for a day. Zeeshan said that he told Umar that in future he should be careful while driving and if he committed a traffic violation again he would be charged.
After Zeeshan forgave Umar, the magistrate court dismissed the case against the cricketer on Friday. "Akmal's father apologised to me out of the court and after his assurances I asked the court to end the case," Zeeshan said.
