3 cops among 5 killed in Andhra Pradesh road mishap; two injured
Bihar's election official Shakeel Ahmed Khan was also travelling in the car
Hyderabad: Five persons, including three policemen from Bihar, were today killed and two others injured when a lorry hit two vehicles in Nellore district.
The accident occurred near Sundaraiah Nagar on the outskirts of Nellore between 7.45 am and 8 am when one of the tyres of a car, returning from Bangalore to Patna, got punctured and was being repaired, police said.
A seven-member team of Bihar election official Shakeel Ahmed Khan, including policemen, was travelling in the car.
The team had gone to Bangalore to get some EVMs repaired, another police official said.
The car and one ambulance were parked near the roadside when the container-lorry hit both the vehicles from the rear-side.
"A container lorry hit the vehicle and the ambulance from behind resulting in the death of three Bihar policemen and two civilians," Nellore District Superintendent of Police
Navdeep Singh Grewal told PTI over phone.
Head constable Manjeet Singh and two constables – Kamal Ahmed Khan and Sandeep Kumar - died in the mishap, police said, adding that two civilians standing near the road were also killed while two others suffered serious injuries.
