Pawan Kalyan's tirade against the division of the state by UPA lacks freshness.

HYDERABAD: Political circles and people alike in the state were agog with speculations of  filmstar Pawan Kalyan's foray into politics. But his marathon political speech, punctuated with sarcasm, emotion and personal insinuation, left more questions than answers.

Before trying to understand the enigma of the Telugu Dabangg, one should underline his clarity in at least a couple of things. He placed himself in the anti-Congress and anti-bifurcation political space, despite his anxiety to appeal to  Telangana emotions. But this political space is crowded with established leaders like N. Chandrababu Naidu, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and  N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. Precisely here,  Pawan Kalyan miserably failed in carving out an exclusive political space for himself. His tirade against the manner in which the Congress led UPA government divided the state lacks freshness. The TDP, YSRCP and BJP have repeatedly used this political idiom to reach out to the Seemandhra masses. He failed to present himself as an alternative to this constituency of voters. Instead, his unsolicited support to anyone who opposes the Congress and his prevarication over making an electoral entry robbed the political shine off his party’s maiden meeting.

To understand the emergence of Jana sena in much clearer political perspective, one should further decipher the political idiosyncrasies unveiled by his over two hour long speech. He made a direct attack on K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his family in a consummate filmi manner. He lavished special praise on MLA Jagga Reddy, Gaddar and others who are  known critics of KCR. It revealed his strategy in appealing to Seemandhra voters who are annoyed with KCR’s politics and also to those in Telangana who are disgruntled with KCR's style.

Any direct or indirect criticism of  the Telangana separate state movement or   controversial issues raised by it were conspicuously absent from his long speech. On the other hand, his specific offer to work with Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu and parroting TDP’s supremo’s pet theme of development and equal justice (sama nyaya), and  chosen ambivalence on Telangana sent a hidden political message. His reference to amassed wealth, owning newspaper and TV channels was a subtle comment on Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Pawan Kalyan’s emotional outburst against the Congress party’s handling of bifurcation can be understood. But barring a passing reference to Venkaiah Naidu, he was silent on the complicity of the BJP with which the TDP is purportedly trying to have a political tie up. Pawan Kalyan  also  conveniently ignored the fact that Congress  was the last party to take a stand in favour of bifurcation.

The Prajarajyam, for which he was the chief campaigner, called for Samajika Telangana during the pre election campaign and shifted to united Andhra Pradesh with  remarkable alacrity in the post-poll scenario. The PRP never placed a condition of not dividing the state when his brother whom he admires even now decided to merge the party with the Congress. The TDP supported the idea of a separate state five years before the Congress took such a decision.

Why is Pawan Kalyan not  angry with such brazen political opportunism. Many more questions await answers.

Pawan Kalyan expresses no  disappointment over  PRP’s merger with Congress and his brother  Chiranjeevi becoming a minister in the UPA. The Jana sena also lacks any specific vision that can attract people other than Pawan’s personal charisma.

A big joke was unleashed yesterday by actor Pawan Kalyan under the title “Jana Sena”. The five star launch of a political party, the first of  its kind, was a full length hi-tech film and many commented that the show will be the first and last. The entire audience comprised of none other than diehard fans, not a single ‘Aam Aadmi’ (common man) was seen in the  audience. Mr Kalyan’s venomous outburst against the Congress party was well designed and well scripted. It is difficult to understand who prepared him mentally? Why did he respond? And what follows now? These are the big question marks that have driven the people of the state to engage in a debate.

Mr Pawan Kalyan feels that he has given a clarion call to the nation to  destroy and bury the Congress  and perhaps, he sincerely believes  that the entire nation will respond to his call. The lunatic in Mr Kalyan may push him to fall into his own trap but he should understand that the Congress party, like a phoenix, will rise  from the ashes. If Mr Kalyan has a pathological aversion to the Congress party, why did  he not stop his own brother, Mr Chiranjeevi, from joining the Congress party? Why did he never utter a single word when he was made a minister. Perhaps, he was enjoying the power indirectly.

Mr Kalyan expressed doubts whether his party will contest  the elections or not. If he is not sure about his future steps, where was the need for Mr Kalyan to launch a political party in haste. This is nothing but a convenient act of the actor and he has a hidden agenda to help some political party. It is strongly believed that Mr Kalyan is being booked by the BJP to strengthen the TDP-BJP alliance in the state for the 2014 elections.

Mr Pawan Kalyan delivered well scripted dialogues like: this country will not play with blood since it believes in ‘Sanatana Dharma’ and it is a ‘Karma Bhoomi’. He never said he believes in it, he said the country believes in it. Speaking about ‘Martin Luther King’, ‘Bhagat Singh’ and ‘Chandrasekhar Azad’ raised the eyebrows of the intelligentsia. Mr Kalyan further mentioned that he is open to join hands with any political party to defeat the Congress party. All the above observations are nothing but a clever ploy and a mask for his sinister plans. It is believed that Mr Kalyan believes in ‘pavanism’. Which is nothing but lunacy.

Another ridiculous observation he had made about the family package of a Telangana leader conveniently forgetting his own family rule when they started the Praja Rajyam Party before 2009 elections. Is it not a fact that  ‘big brother’ was made PRP chief, middle brother was chief of voluntary force, brother-in-law chief of finance and younger brother (Kalyan), the Praja Rajyam youth wing chief? Before taking  a dig at somebody else  should  he not look at his own  past?

Personal loyalty was never one  of Mr Kalyan’s strong points. Can a person who is not loyal to his own family, be trusted to be loyal to the people?
