Kumbakonam: Tension prevailed for a while during the annual car festival of Srinivasa Perumal temple at nearby Natchiarkoil on Monday after the chariot pulled by devotees deviated from its path and was about to hit a house, police said.

However, any possible mishap was averted by placing wooden logs to correct its path and in the melee some women devotees who pulled the car sustained minor injuries, they said.

The deity, decorated in colourful costumes, would be taken in procession in chariot during the 10 day festival every year in Panguni, the last month as per Tamil calender in the ancient Vaishnavite temple.

The festival would conclude on Tuesday, they said.
