Hyderabad: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said that even he needs to pass a test before contesting the elections. Giving a Power Point presentation on Sunday at his residence on the new Inter Active Voice Recording method of choosing candidates, Mr Naidu said the system applies to him too.

Under the new system, the TD supremo will prepare a list of probable candidates for each Assembly and Lok Sabha seat and will upload the list into a system prepared by the tech-savvy TD backroom boys.

The names will be forwarded to thousands of voters having cellphones. Out of three or four names, the voters can pick one. If they don’t like the probables, they can turn them all down and suggest alternatives. This way the party office will get to know which candidate has majority support and the same name will be announced as the party’s candidate.

Mr Naidu said that he didn’t want to dictate names and would rather that people make kn-own their preference. On Sunday, former Congress minister Satrucherla Vijayarama Raju and his nephew and Kurupam MLA Janardhana Thatraj joined the TD.

Muttamsetty Krishna Rao, chairman of Nova Educational Institutions and husband of state information commissioner M. Vijayanirmala also joined the TD.
Mr Raju was the Congress MLA in 1978. He joined the TD and was elected as MP from Parvathipuram. He then went back to the Congress when his good friend Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy was made PCC chief in 1998.
