New Delhi: Whistle blower Julian Assange founded website WikiLeaks on Monday said that it never endorsed BJP’s Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi as incorruptible.

In a series of tweets, the WikiLeaks claimed it never said Mr Modi was incorruptible, rather he is popular because he is viewed as incorruptible, the WikiLeaks tweeted.

The whistle blower website’s clarification came in the backdrop of some BJP supporters circulating posters quoting Wikileaks founder Julian Assange saying that America is scared of Modi because he is incorruptible.

The controversy dates back to 2006, when according to WikiLeaks US diplomat Michael S Owen, met with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP, however, downplayed the Wiki-Leaks tweets. "We don’t need a certificate from Wikileaks or Mr Assange on Modiji", BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

"We have not asked for their certificate nor do they need to give us any. People have made it clear that they want Modi to win as they want good and stable governance which can take the country on the path of progress", he added.
