From the critically-acclaimed Yeddelu Manjunatha, this gorgeous girl from Mangalore has come a long way. Now, ready for the release of two films, Yagna Shetty is excited and looking forward. Sadagara and much-anticipated Rakshith Shetty’s Ulidavaru Kandanthe will hit the screens soon. Known for her deglamorous and serious roles, Yagna Shetty feels that the release of Sadagara will finally break the stereotype of her roles.
Talking about her most-appreciated role in Yeddelu Manjunatha, Yagna says, “My performance in Yeddelu Manjuntha was noted by all and the credit goes to director Guru Prasad, and for his experimental script. I had to just follow his instructions. Thereafter, recognition came to me though I was stereotyped with the serious tag. People began to think that I would be best suited for serious and deglamorous roles. However, I strongly believe that Sadagara will break this image. The character in the film more or less relates to me and what I am. Even the subject is more about the present generation.”
She adds, “In Ulidavaru Kandanthe, I will be in a de-glamorous role, with an excellent experimental script by Rakshit Shetty. It was great working for Ulidavaru Kandanthe, with the narration at its best and five different plots running in different directions, that finally meet at a perfect climax. I play the role of fisherwoman opposite Kishore. The love angle is quite expressive, as the director wanted me to do most of the conversation in the film through expressions rather than dialogues.”
With two of her films up for release at the box-office simultaneously, Yagna feels that it is the producers who are at a great loss in such a situation when two or more films of an actor hits the screen together. “With just an idea, film makers tiresomely work hard for more than six months investing time and money but when several films of a particular actor are released simultaneously, it is the producers who are at a loss. However, the actors get recognised and appreciated. If anyone of the films fail at the box-office, it is the producer that has to face the financial burden.”
While not many actresses manage to survive for a long period in this industry, Yagna still emphasises on a good script, “The audience is very clever these days, and that is why films like Simpleag Ond Love Story became a huge hit, for the freshness of its script. I would like to do more films with good scripts which do not over emphasise on a large screen presence or just stress on the glamorous quotient only,” Yagna explains.
Ulidavaru Kandanthe is scheduled to release on March 28 alongwith Sadagara. The actress said that if delayed, Sadagara is expected to hit the screens in the first week of April.
