Hyderabad: With the upcoming elections being touted as the most tech friendly till date, students and faculty of St. Mary’s College, Yousufguda emphasise on the need for an equally tech savvy leader. With a lot of global influence on their lives, students say that the elections can prove to be a great platform for interaction between the leaders and students via social media. Most of them being first-time voters, they say that Internet has been a major source of information about the elections.

“We are all well informed about the last date for voter ID registrations, candidates and more. Some political parties update events online by creating pages on Facebook and Twitter. But, these are done by the team and not the leaders. With almost everybody having an account on social networking websites, leaders must connect to people and interact with them,” said Madhuri Movva, a B.Com Computers graduate from the college.

Yash Jain, a first year BBA student stressed on the need for more young leaders. “We need leaders who are well qualified and who will function according to the needs of today. Society is changing at a fast pace and we need to keep up with it.”

Meanwhile, first year Mass Communication students Rubina Pradhan and Priyanka Nevgai want the government to change the current education system.
“We now need to be in sync with teaching techniques that universities across the globe follow,” they say.

Women’s safety is another major issue raised by the female students. “The number of rapes has been rising. Vulnerable places in the city must be identified and regular patrolling must take place. And not many offenders get strict punishment. The laws must be made more stringent,” said Neha Pandit, a third year B.Com student.

Meanwhile, B. Mahender Reddy, the group director, feels that the Assembly election is nothing but clutter owing to constant shuffling of leaders.
“Every second day local leaders are jumping between parties; the present trend being most of the Congress leaders joining TRS in Telangana region. Presently people are unaware which leaders are contesting from which constituency and from which party. I don’t see the Congress taking charge at least in these elections.”
