Hyderabad: A "cordial" meeting organised by Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao with the kin of those who reportedly ended their lives for the cause of a separate Telangana state turned chaotic on Wednesday.

The meeting became chaotic after those claiming to represent Osmania University Students' Joint Action Committee demanded that tickets for the ensuing general elections be given to families of "martyrs".

Barging into the meeting venue, a group of youth raised slogans in support of their demand, even as the MP picked up a heated argument with them, while MPs and other Congress leaders remained mute spectators.

Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh arrived more than two hours behind schedule for the meeting, by when the chaos had already ended.

The meeting's organisers who also received a representation from the agitating youth, promised to look into their demands, after which the ruckus ended.

Congress leaders used the occasion to spit fire at the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and claim credit that the Telangana state became a reality only because of the Congress.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, Madhu Yashki, Anjan Kumar, former minister K Jana Reddy and others attended the meeting.
