Mammootty attends a charity fund raising dinner for destitute women
The charity fund raising dinner was hosted by Anweshi, a women counselling centre
Kozhikode: Malayalam actors Bharath Mammootty and Mamtha Mohandas had a splendid dinner with the city folks on Saturday as part of a charity fund raising programme for Anweshi, a women counselling centre.
The event was organised in a bid to collect fund of Rs 30 lakh to complete a project of short-stay home in Virippil near Moozhikkal. Around 450 people attended the function by paying Rs 5000 each to be a part of the noble cause.
The city-based Anweshi started short stay home in 2003 to provide shelter to women and children, victims of domestic violence. Later it planned to construct a permanent short stay home building, adjacent to its main office costing Rs 15 lakh raised through donations from abroad.
Anweshi President K Ajitha said, “Our motto of organising a charity fund raising event and calling celebrities was to raise money to complete our dream of having a short stay home. Since 2003, short stay home has been operating in rented places and facing problems like frequent increase in rent, lack of accessibility and shifting issues.”
“With the kind support of Mammotty to this noble cause, we will now be able to fulfil this dream”, she added.
