The musical race is on
Music director S. Thaman’s tunes for Race Gurram have become overnight
Thanks to composer S. Thaman, the music of Race Gurram has become a huge hit even before the film’s release. In just four years, Thaman, one of the most sought-after music composers of Tollywood, has composed music for around 55 films.
Talking about the music of Race Gurram, Thaman says, “We have used various singers; like for the song Sweety Sweety, Siddharth Mahadevan and Rabbit Mac from Malaysia lent their voices; Mega and Dinesh Kanagaratnam, who is a well-known rap artiste, have sung Gala Gala, I sang for Down Down with Shruti Haasan and so on.”
“There are six songs and every song is different. Normally we use 20-30 tunes but for the six songs of Race Gurram we used only 6-9 tunes, thanks to the producer and director who had preconceived the songs,” he adds.
About working with Allu Arjun for the first time, the maestro says, “I generally like Allu Arjun’s acting and above all he dances well, which is an added advantage. And he is full of energy. He does justice to the songs and in turn takes them to another level.”
Of late there has been criticism that Thaman’s songs all sound the same. Clarifying his stand, the composer says, “It’s not me alone but the team which finalises the songs. I must also mention that eight-nine movies were supposed to release in 2012 but they were shifted to 2013; so in 12 months, I have had almost 14 audio releases. Maybe this made audiences feel that it’s all the same music. We use different technology and I will clarify that I love music. I will never compromise on quality.”
Currently he is busy composing for Jr NTR’s Rabasa, Ravi Teja’s film Power, Mahesh Babu’s Aagadu and others.
