Elections 2014:Brother-in-law is Captain pick for Salem LS seat
DMDK chief announced that his brother-in-law will contest from the Salem Lok Sabha seat
Chennai: DMDK chief Vijayakanth Sunday announced the candidates for all the 14 Lok Sabha seats to be contested by his party as part of the BJP led National Democratic Allaince in the state for the April 24 elections. He also named the candidate for Alandur Assembly by poll. His brother-in-law and party’s youth wing secretary L.K. Sudhish will contest from the Salem Lok Sabha seat.
In a statement here, Mr Vijayakanth said Mr V. Yuvaraj, north Chennai district secretary, would contest the Tiruvallur (reserved) seat, while Mr M. Soundarapandian, the party’s labour wing secretary, would enter the fray in North Chennai.
The party’s student wing secretary A.M.G. Vijayakumar would contest from Tiruchy, while Dr V.P. Eswaran, doctors wing secretary, and Mr T. Sivamuthukumar, Madurai city district secretary, would be fielded from Kallakurichi and Madurai.
Tirupur north district secretary N. Dineshkumar and Karur district secretary N. S. Krishnan would face the voters in Tirupur and Karur constituencies, while Mr K. Umashankar is testing his strength in Villupuram
The party’s teachers and graduate wing secretary and deputy secretary, Prof J.K. Ravindran and Mr R. Ramanujam, would be contesting from Central Chennai and Cuddalore. The party has nominated Mr A. Krishnamurthy for the Dindigul seat and Mr S. Sivananidha Perumal for the Tirunelveli seat.
The party also announced Mr A.M. Kamaraj for the Alandur by poll, necessitated by the resignation of DMDK legislator Panruti Ramachandran. Mr Ramachandran had quit the party to join the AIADMK. After protracted parleys, it was decided that the DMDK will contest 14 seats in the BJP led NDA.
