Students eye more jobs from next government
Students, professors expect proper wages, filling up of vacancies from next government
Hyderabad: The increasing demand in the software sector has lured students away from science and mathematics. Even though there are fewer job opportunities in these fields, the government does not fill up vacant posts, which is a major blow to lakhs of degree holders, complain students of Koti Women’s College. The students are expecting a revised curriculum, involving more practical orientation, as well as an increase in jobs from the next government.
“More than 40 per cent of the permanent staff in universities will be retiring soon. However, the government is not recruiting at the same ratio. The temporary staff is given very meagre salaries and fewer opportunities in terms of upgrading themselves. Students are not exposed to research. Poor payment to lecturers is a major issue affecting the whole system,” said K.S.N. Jyothi, professor in the genetics department.
Principal of the college B.T. Seetha blames the basic education policy. “The policy of providing quality education needs to start at the primary level. In the name of free education, the government is expecting free service from teachers and paying them peanuts. We are in a state of policy paralysis. It is good to give free education but quality service must also be provided. I want to see an accountable leader taking stage in the coming elections.”
