Union minister Jaffer Sharief’s kin have signed up as members of different political outfits
Bengaluru: Amid uncertainty about former Union minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief’s political stance, his kin have signed up as members of different political outfits.
While one son-in-law has enrolled as a member of Aam Admi Party, one of his grandsons, Uzair, has taken charge as president of the city unit of R.K. Mishra’s Navabharat Party. Dr Abdul Waheed, a doctor by profession, who joined AAP as he was impressed with its anti-corruption agenda, told Deccan Chronicle:
“I would like to make it clear that I joined AAP nearly three months before the controversy over denial of a ticket to my father-in-law erupted. I was impressed with Arvind Kejriwal’s performance, and enrolled online.” Dr Waheed admitted that Mr Sharief was informed about his decision.
“My wife told him. He was magnanimous as he did not oppose my move. I’ve seen two national parties, BJP and Congress, and how they function. AAP emerged as a good platform. So, I decided to join it. I am campaigning for Bangalore Central candidate Mr V. Balakrishnan,” he said.
Answering a question, he said he would certainly persuade Mr Sharief to back AAP on his return. Meanwhile, the veteran leader’s grandson Uzair has taken over as president of the city unit of Navabharat Party.
Mr R K Mishra said: “We’re focusing on BBMP elections. At one point, we decided to contest Lok Sabha elections. But we knew that we do not have resources. So, we’re doing the ground work to build the party.’’
