Will Congress air drop houses for landless: VS Achuthanandan
Congress had lost touch with the people ,says Achuthanandan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LDF on Thursday launched a frontal attack on the Congress manifesto alleging that the ruling party had made promises which the UPA Government failed to fulfil during its decade long rule at the centre.
Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan took a dig at the promise made in the manifesto regarding houses for all. “Are they going to air drop houses for those who don’t even own a piece of land,” he asked at an election meeting. The Congress had lost touch with the people and was making false promises, he added.
CPM state secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan said despite ruling the Centre for 10 years the Congress led UPA had failed to deliver. “Promises which they could not fulfil in their decade long rule, how are they going to do now,’’ he asked.
Referring to the promise regarding appointing a “special envoy” to recover the money which is stashed away in foreign banks, he alleged that many Congress leaders have also parked money in such banks.
The CPM leader said despite being in power, the Congress had failed to take even a single step to recover the money stashed in foreign banks and had even faced severe criticism from the Supreme Court recently. Now they are promising to come out with a mechanism to bring back the money. “Who is going to believe them,” he asked.
Pinarayi said it is ironical that Congress whose government had done away with lakhs of jobs, is now promising to create 10 crore jobs.
The 2G spectrum, coal field scam and CWG had indicated that Manmohan Singh Government was neck deep in corruption, he said adding that the thoroughly ‘discredited’ UPA cannot win the confidence of people again.
