Hacked accounts such as Twitter and Facebook might be ignored by many since they think the hacker might not be able to do anything much with it. A report filed by Rand Corporation has revealed some insider truth that we may not be well informed about.

Well stealing credit card details and account user names and passwords was a big time business at a particular time. However, today they fetch the hacker just around $20 per detail, which dies down later to lower than a dollar in most cases.

A new fad of Twitter account hacking by cyber criminals has shown that a single hacked Twitter account can yield up to $350 for the hacker. The criminal not only gets hold of your username and password, but since we tend to use similar usernames and passwords for many sites and also gain access to numerous websites with wither Twitter or Facebook, the hacker now has access to even more data than you think.

So if you are a well-known face on Twitter and have a lot of followers, your hacked account can be a business opportunity for them as well as the information of your friends and followers on that account are also at risk.

Hence it is always advisable to have the option of two-factor authentication setup in your online accounts. If you haven’t done it as yet, it is time to do so.
