Congress leader threatens to chop Narendra Modi into pieces
Masood claims his rivals are using the video clip to disturb his political campaign
Lucknow/New Delhi: A six-month old video clip showing Congress candidate from Saharanpur Imran Masood threatening to “chop Narendra Modi to pieces” went viral on Thursday. A case was filed against Mr Masood, the nephew of former Congress Rajya Sabha MP Rashid Masood.
While the Congress condemned the statement, the BJP alleged that Mr Gandhi was “encouraging” his partymen to make such statements. The poll panel has sought details, saying it will “take action if needed”.
Mr Masood on Friday said that the video was around six months old. “I was in the Samajwadi Party then. Some rivals are using this clip to disturb my campaign now,” he said. The clip shows Mr Masood saying, referring to Mr Modi: “We will cut him into pieces.”
On December 2012, in Nirmal town of Adilabad, Mr Owaisi made multiple comments against Hindus, deities, RSS, VHP, BJP and Mr Modi. He said that Muslims will overpower Hindus if police is removed for 15 minutes. A case was filed against him and he was arrested on January 8, 2013 and was kept in custody for 40 days.
In MARCH 2009, BJP leader Varun Gandhi went on a wild rant against Muslims while campaigning. He repeatedly said that it’s not the Congress’ symbol of hand but the BJP’s arm that will behead Muslims and used a derogatory word to refer to the community. Following a case filed against him, he surrendered before a court and was sent to judicial custody. He was later acquitted.
