THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Stung by BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s three-AK taunt, defence minister A.K. Antony has said, if the Gujarat CM is a true patriot he will never have made a statement that will demoralise the armed forces.
Mr Antony at a meet-the-press event here on Saturday said, “Mr Modi is day and night trying to become the Prime Minister. Do you think it is an appropriate statement? A true patriot will not make such a comment as it will only help demoralise our armed forces, protecting our borders and internal security. I am sorry he has made such a comment as it will only help our enemy.”
However, BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said “Mr Antony is my friend. He is not a Pakistan agent.” He however blamed the media for misinterpreting Mr Modi’s speech in Jammu on March 26. “Mr Modi never said Antony is a Pakistan agent. Media only misinterpreted Modi’s statement. We do not have any prejudice against Antony,” Mr Naidu said.
Mr Antony said there was no wave in favour of Mr Modi, who posed a threat to the integrity of the country. If he became the PM, it would undermine the integrity of the country, jeopardising its future.
“The Gujarat model is a failure and people have realised this. Modi wave is just hype created by a certain corporate house. It is a marketing strategy that failed to create any impact,” he said.
