Melbourne: The 3D-version of the 1975 blockbuster 'Sholay' is all set to be premiered in Australia on May 1 in the presence of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan during the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The 11-day-long Bollywood extravaganza will be inaugurated by Bachchan, 71, who would also be honoured at the festival.

Bachchan will be presented an international award by the
Victorian government and he will also give a scholarship to an
Indian student named after him by the la Trobe university. "It is matter of great pride for all Melbournians and Indians Down Under that Big B will be visiting to inaugurate the 11-days long festival and open the event with his blockbuster movie Sholay now restored in 3D. This is going to be the biggest highlight of this year," said, Mitu Bhowmick
Lange, the director of IFFM.

The festival, in its third year, will screen over 45 films across four venues here. It will close with Bengali film 'Goynar Baksho', directed by Aparna Sen. This year the festival has also introduced IFFM Awards judged by a panel of Australian and Indian film stars including Phillip Noyce, Jill Bilcock, Rajkumar Hirani, Simi Garewal, Rajeev Masand and Suhasini Maniratnam.

The winners in the categories of Best Film, Best Performance, Best Director, Best Independent Film and the People's Choice Award will be announced at a red carpet gala event on May 2.
