New Delhi: Contesting against BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal said on  Wednesday he could “join the BJP if Modi promises not to increase gas prices”. But quickly realising his faux paus, Mr Kejriwal clarified later that “even if I die, I will never join the BJP or the Congress”.

Reacting to Mr Kejriwal’s statement, a local AAP leader said, “Such statements are bound to create confusion in the minds of voters. Why provide fodder to rival parties when the elections are just a week away?”

Spin doctors said Mr Kejriwal’s statement showed that he was convinced that Mr Modi was going to become the next PM. “Otherwise, why sho-uld anyone make such immature comments,” a political analyst said.

Addressing meetings in East Delhi in support of AAP candidate Rajmohan Gandhi, Mr Kejriwal said his aim was to defeat Mr Modi. “That’s why I am fighting from Varanasi,” the AAP convener said.
