Iquique, Chile: Chile early Thursday lifted a tsunami alert issued after a strong aftershock that followed an 8.2-magnitude earthquake the day before.

Interior Minister Rodrigo Penailillo said the Navy's oceanographic service SHOA had rescinded the alert all along the South American nation's Pacific coast. The magnitude of the aftershock was lowered to 7.6 from an initial 7.8.
