Hyderabad: Charmi’s 50th film Prathighatana will release on April 18. Talking about the female centric film, in which she plays a journalist, the actress says, “Such subjects rarely come up in Tollywood. This is a real story of a girl who was gang raped in Odisha four and half years ago and she’s still in coma. We took her subject and blended it with a political drama.”

She adds that when director Thammareddy Bharadwaj met her to narrate the story she was watching news. “The news was about a four-year-old girl who was gang-raped. I was deeply moved by the news and it was at that time that he told me the story,” says Charmi.

“I don’t know anything about politics. But Thammareddy explained the political scenario of our state and then I signed this film,” says the actress.

Though she can speak Telugu, but for this role, she needed to be fluent. “I can’t understand a few words if you speak in the pure language. So I learnt to get a grip on it,” she adds.

Charmi has had her share of ups and downs. But despite her larger success, she is rarely seen on par with other actresses like Kaajal Aggarwal and Tamanna. Talking about this, she says, “If I didn’t have commercial success, I would not have touched 50 movies. I am proud of my career graph. Whether you do a female-oriented film or an item song, at the end of the day the audience wants entertainment. I am ready to entertain my fans in any form,” she says.

“I am blessed with two Nandi awards. Also at a young age (she is just 25) I got plenty of opportunities to prove myself. If you concentrate only on looks you will be gone in two or three years. If there is something more than that, I think you can sustain for many years in the industry .”

About her last film, which was also female-oriented but had not done well, she says, “We do every movie thinking that it will do well. But sometimes they don’t do well. I always take a failure as a lesson,” she says.
