A teenager gets trapped in a drain while trying to recover her fallen phone
Kent: A 16-year-old found herself stuck in a drain as she tried to retrieve her dear smartphone that had fallen down the storm drain.
Ella Birchenough was talking to her friend when she dropped her BlackBerry into a drain in Dover.
“I was talking to somebody and I went to put my phone in my pocket and it fell down the drain. I thought to myself 'I'm not leaving this' and I jumped down to get it," Ella told KentOnline.
But the teenager soon found herself trapped and unable to get out on her own, she asked passer-bys for help.
Ella's mother, Joanne Birchenough rushed to the scene and called three firefighters who then pulled Ella back to safety.
"I was really worried. My face went white and I was in a panic. I ran out the house, turned the corner - but as soon as I saw her I burst out laughing," said Joanne.
“When they pulled me out I ran straight home and jumped in the bath. I think it was just water but I wasn't taking any chances.
"I was just laughing the whole time. I have seen the funny side of it. You just have to laugh along with it," Ella added.
The poor BlackBerry however, was unable to survive the ordeal.
