Assembly Polls 2014: Hasty aspirants file nominations
Candidates don’t wait for alliance talks to end
Hyderabad: Jumping the gun, candidates from TDP, BJP and TRS filed nominations from various Assembly segments in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district on Thursday even as alliance talks between TD and BJP, and Congress and TRS are still ongoing.
BJP state general secretary, N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, filed his nomination from Uppal Assembly constituency on Thursday despite the fact that the TD-BJP alliance talks remained inconclusive till late on Thursday.
The Uppal Assembly segment is also being demanded by the TDP workers with T. Veerender Goud emerging as a favourite among TDP workers. He is the son of TDP and Rajya Sabha member T. Devender Goud.
Filing of nomination by BJP’s Prabhakar kicked up massive protests from TDP workers who lodged complaints with the TDP leadership. When contacted, Mr Prabhakar told this newspaper, “Today was an auspicious day for me. Also, my party has cleared my name for this seat. I have been working in this segment for the past 35 years and how can TDP even think of demanding this seat for a rookie like Veerender Goud?” he said.
Another leader who filed nominations on Thursday was TDP sitting MLA from Ibrahimpatnam Assembly segment Manchireddy Kishan Reddy. He said that the party had announced that all sitting legislators would be given tickets from the same seats and such seats would not be given to an alliance party, if any.
Meanwhile, Nomula Mallaiah of TRS filed his nomination papers from Maheshwaram constituency.
In a different development, tension prevailed in this constituency when rumours spread that the segment was allotted to the BJP by the TDP as part of the alliance and that the Congress had gifted the seat to the CPI. The constituency is currently represented by former home minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy of the Congress.
Meanwhile, supporters of former mayor, Teegala Krishna Reddy, of BJP thronged the residence of TDP president Chandrababu Naidu and demanded that the Maheshwaram seat be allotted to him.
Likewise, supporters of Ms Sabita Indra Reddy protested against Maheshwaram being given to the CPI.
