Brother slams Imam for backing Congress

New Delhi: Dissent within Delhi’s Muslim community on Thursday echoed loud over the meeting of Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. While the Imam’s brother criticised him for reaching out to the “backstabbing” Congress, the Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri mosque also expressed his reservation over the meet.

Syed Yahya Bukhari said the meeting had undermined the “honour” of the Jama Masjid. “I was totally opposed to the decision of the Shahi Imam meeting Mrs Gandhi,” he said.
