Mumbai: A new study has linked increased mobile phone usage to erectile dysfunction (ED). Medical teams in Austria and Egypt also identified a positive correlation between carrying a switched-on mobile phone and ED.

The Health Site reported, ‘In order to understand the impact of cell phones, researchers further conducted a study on on a group of 20 men who had complained of ED for at least six months, as well as another group of 10 healthy men with no history of ED.’

All men completed the German version of the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) for evaluation of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), as well as another questionnaire designed to assess their mobile phone usage.

Through this research, analysts concluded ‘Men who use their cell phone for more than four hours a day, are significantly more likely to experience erectile dysfunction, as compared to those who use their phones for less than two hours.’

Continuous use of mobile phones may also cause insomnia as well. Psychologist Richard Wiseman from Hertfordshire University highlighted, ‘Getting less than seven hours’ sleep a night is below the recommended guidelines and is associated with a range of problems including an increased risk of weight gain, heart attacks, diabetes and cancer.’
