Joint Entrance Examination centres in city after 2 yrs

Hyderabad: Over 1.22 lakh students from the state will appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2014 being held in five cities on Sunday. The results will be announced on May 3 and ranks will be released on July 7 after giving 40 per cent weightage to 10+2 marks. The weightage will be given after the ‘normalisation procedure’ to minimise the huge variation in awarding marks across all boards in the country.

Paper-I for BE/B.Tech courses will be held from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and Paper-2 for B.Arch/ B. Planning will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm.

JEE (Main) ranks  assume greater significance as only the top 1.50 lakh rankers in this test will be allowed to appear for JEE (Advanced) for admission to IITs. The JEE (Main) off-line exam is being held at Hyderabad, Warangal, Guntur, Khammam and Tirupati centres.  

The CBSE which has been conducting JEE (Main) has set up 59 exam centres in Hyderabad, 17 in Warangal, 40 in Guntur, 13 in Khammam and 28 in Tirupati. Tirupati has the highest number of students taking the test (32,400), followed by

Hyderabad (31,000), Guntur (25,800), Khammam (13,300) and Warangal (10,200). The decision of CBSE to set up offline exam centres in Hyderabad this year after a gap of two years has come as a relief to city students, who  were  otherwise forced to travel to Warangal, Khammam, Tirupati etc to appear for the test in 2012 and 2013.

While 1,22,863 students from state have opted for offline exam this year, 10,746 have opted for the online exam being held on April 9, 11, 12 and 19.

A total of 13,56,805 students have registered for JEE (Main) this year across the country. AP stands third with 1.22 lakh candidates.

The top two states are Maharashtra with 2.45lakh applicants and Uttar Pradesh 1.58lakh applicants.

Nearly 15,500 seats are on offer in 30 NITs, 850 seats in 5 IIITs and another 15,000 seats in self-financing institutions.
