New Delhi: The Mumbai-based Western Naval Command has submitted the Board of Inquiry report into the recent accident on board the INS Sindhuratna submarine even as some reports indicated that a senior naval officer of the rank of Commodore could face a court martial. Two naval officers had lost their life in the accident on February 26 that had led to the resignation of Admiral D.K. Joshi as the Navy chief.

In another development, the Visakhapatnam based Eastern Naval Command has ordered a Board of Inquiry into the loss of a torpedo during trials off the Visakhapatnam coast recently, defence sources confirmed.

On the INS Sindhuratna probe, the Navy, however, did not offer any comments on the contents of the Board of Inquiry report. But according to news agency reports, the Western Naval Command is understood to have recommended to the Naval Headquarters, the court martial of an officer holding the position of a Commodore who was closely associated with the trials off the Mumbai coast while also recommending “severe displeasure” for two mid-ranking officers.
