We have no links with Rajapaksa: 'Kaththi' director
Karunamoorthy of Ayngaran International denied the allegations
Chennai: The Vijay-Samantha starrer, Kaththi, which is directed by AR Murugadoss, was mired in controversy recently as it was alleged that one of the movie’s producers, Subashkaran, of Lyca Productions had close links with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Several Tamil organisations raised objections and demanded an explanation from the makers of the movie, namely Ayngaran International and Lyca.
Now, Karunamoorthy of Ayngaran International met the press and denied those allegations.
“Subashkaran and I left Sri Lanka 30 years ago and I have been involved in Tamil film production for the last 27 years. I have distributed nearly 2,000 Tamil films in the foreign market. As far as Kaththi is concerned, Lyca is funding us. Lyca Communications is a multinational with operations in India and Sri Lanka. They also run a foundation which helps Tamils in Sri Lanka, affected by the civil war. There are no links between Subash and Rajapaksa and the rumours are baseless,” he said.
He added, “Lyca Productions earlier made Cheran’s film, Pirivom Sandhippom, under the banner, Gnanam Productions. While Vijay essays a dual role, we have planned to release Kaththi this Deepavali.”
