Vijayawada: YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s idea of creating a capital city for Seemandhra in a new place, rather than making an existing city the capital, has piqued interest of the industrialists and the common public.

“Converting any existing city into a green city is impossible. Only a place, that can be developed from scratch, can be made a green city,” said N. Sridharan, director, School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada.

Mr Sridharan gave the example of Uttarkhand, where all state bodies do not function out of the capital city of Dehradun. He suggested, AP should also have multiple capitals, though not too many.

Industrialist and YSRC Vijayawada MP candidate K. Rajendra Prasad felt it would be better to carve out a capital from the existing cities.

“It’s not so easy to widen roads in cities and other amenities, but it’s easy to bring up a capital nearby an existing city,” he said.
