New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday hit back at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s marital status alleging that Mr Gandhi has breached the “unstated code of Indian politics” by dragging “families and ladies into controversy.”

Launching a scathing counter-attack, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley asked how Mr Gandhi can be disturbed by the disclosure of a “legitimate” relationship when “many” of his partymen have “illicit” relationships.

In Varanasi, some BJP supporters released a poster terming Mr Modi as a desh premi and describing Congress and SP leaders as “patni premi.”
In Ahmedabad, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad claimed that PM Manmohan Singh had not mentioned his wife’s name in the affidavit submitted along with the nomination he filed as a Rajya Sabha candidate.

Mr Jaitley without naming anyone, said, “How many current Congress-men are in illicit relationships and yet have paraded their wives only for photo opportunities during nominations? Surely if people have a right to know about the ‘legal’ relationship of Mr Modi, they also have a right to know about the illicit relationships of Congre-ssmen,” Mr Jaitley said.
