Chennai: Superstar’ Rajinikanth on Sunday described BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as “a strong leader and able administrator” after the two met at his Poes Garden bungalow amid speculation that the actor would announce his stamp of approval for the Gujarat CM that would give a big push for the BJP front in Tamil Nadu.

Maintaining his apolitical stance, Rajini told the huge media gathering outside his house that their meeting was just a ‘courtesy call’ and no political significance should be attached to it.

“Everyone knows that he (Modi) is a strong leader and able administrator. He is my well wisher and I am his well wisher. I wish him all the best for his future. All the time, God should be always with him. I pray God whenever he thinks, whatever he thinks should happen”, said Rajinikanth.

It was obvious the superstar was referring to Modi’s PM ambition and such praise is sure to go influence his fans to lean the saffron way on the poll day, April 24. To provide further visual reaffirmation, Rajini shook hands with his guest and hugged him before the excited media.

“He is my well-wisher and I am his well-wisher. This is not a political meeting. When Modiji visited me when I was in hospital (in 2011). I had invited him to have a cup of tea with me whenever he came to Chennai. So he has come now. I am happy he is here,” said Rajini, trying to play down the significance of the meeting.

Responding to Rajini’s good wishes, Modi said, “I wished him on the eve of Tamil New Year. He is a good friend”. He had driven to the star’s bungalow straight from the airport on arrival for his Chennai rally. Modi had visited Rajini at the hospital where he was undergoing treatment when he came to the city to attend Jayalalithaa’s swearing-in as CM on May 16, 2011.

Though both Rajini and Modi insisted that it was just a courtesy call and they were just good friends, BJP seniors here expressed confidence that the words of the superstar would have great influence upon his millions of fans in the state.
