Gujarat model is like toffee: Rahul Gandhi
'Earlier, the partnership was between Atal and Advani, now it is Modi and Adani'
Mumbai: In a blistering attack on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday dubbed the Gujarat model as a “toffee model”, which had benefited only one industrialist at the cost of farmers and the poor.
Speaking in Latur, Mr Gandhi said, “Let me tell you about the Gujarat model. Have you heard of Advani? Advani, Jaswant Singh have been sidelined. Now a new neta (leader) has emerged. He is Narendra Modi. Earlier, there was a partnership between Atal Behari Vajpayee and Advani. Now there is partnership between Modi and Adani.”
“Land of Aurangabad’s size 45,000 acres has been given for a mere Rs 300 crore. This is a toffee model, not Gujarat model. For Rs 1, you get a toffee here. There, land was sold at Rs 1 per metre... it was the land of the poor and the farmers,” Mr Gandhi said.
He said that a loan of Rs 10,000 crore was given to build the Nano car plant. The amount is more than what is spent on health and education in Gujarat.
