Bengaluru: Politicians and superstitions go hand in hand. But this was the mother of all superstitions. Union minister K.H. Muniyappa, who walked into the polling booth in Koppal along with his supporters, moved the entire voting machine to another corner of the hall, because the machine was not facing the “most auspicious direction for voting”.

One of the polling officials who acceded to the minister’s demands, was immediately suspended though no action was taken against the minister’s supporters.

Kolar deputy commissioner D.K. Ravi said that poll officials have no authority to move the EVMs.
