New Delhi: Taking on BJP leader Narendra Modi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi quoted statistics to question the development model of Gujarat.

Without naming Mr Modi, Mrs Gandhi said, “These days a lot is being said about the Gujarat model of development, but the reality is something else. In Gujarat, 40 per cent people have no drinking water and 27,000 posts reserved for Dalits and tribals are vacant.”

“Every second child under five years of age is malnourished (in the state),” she said in Neemuch, MP, speaking in support of Congress MP Meenakshi Natarajan.

In Bhatgaon, Chhattisgarh, Mrs Gandhi launched another attack on Mr Modi, saying, “No democracy can be safe in the hands of one man”.

“You should vote wisely in this election keeping this in mind,” she said.
