Wakf Board may face defamation case

Hyderabad:The city-based Anwar-ul-Uloom Educational Association announced on Saturday that it will launch a legal battle against the high-handed attitude of the AP State Wakf Board.

Mahbub Alam Khan, the secretary of the Anwar-ul-Uloom Educational Association, said the action initiated by the Wakf Board against the Association was contrary to the provisions of the Wakf Act as well as the Constitution. He said that the properties of the Association were never dedicated to the Wakf.

He said the Wakf Board special officer while announcing that the Board was taking over the Anwar-ul-Uloom Junior College at Nampally, a high school at Chaderghat and 22 shops at Habeebnagar had made allegations against him without evidence.

Mr Alam Khan said that he will file civil and criminal defamation suits against the special officer and others responsible for maligning his image by leveling baseless allegations against him.

He said he had moved the HC challenging the appointment of special officer to the Wakf Board. He added that they had already challenged the action of the Board in taking control over properties of the Association.

Mr Alam Khan said the Wakf Act never allows considering the income generated through running of educational institutions as revenue to remit to the Board. He added that the Association has been demanding that a fresh survey be done of its properties from 2006.

He said that the Board has been depending on a Gazette notification issued in 1984. He contended that it was an incomplete notification.
