Guntur: Guntur delta, the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh, witnessed huge crowds when YSRC chief Jagan Mohan Reddy held road shows on Tuesday.

As Jagan launched a scathing attack on TD chief Chandrababu Naidu’s corruption and lack of credibility, the crowd responded with thunderous applause. Calling Mr Naidu a “liar,” Jagan said he would keep his promises like his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

As the YSRC chief arrived in Kollipara and Mangalagiri, the crowds cheered him loudly, chanting “Jai Jagan.”

Kollipara residents, who had actually helped in the Congress victory in 2009 in the Tenali Assembly seat, are now rallying behind the YSR Congress. The town is known for YSR’s fans.

The road show in Guntur district got an overwhelming response with women, youth and farmers taking part in large numbers. Before he spoke, Jagan greeted everyone on the roadside.

Addressing a gathering at Mangalagiri, Jagan took a dig at the CBI, “In the Emaar case though it was Naidu who struck the agreement, he was not interrogated. Naidu escaped the probe. The IMG Bharathi case is worse. It is a benami company to which more than 850 acres were allotted illegally by Naidu. The CBI told the court then that it was facing a staff crunch to probe the case against Naidu. For Jagan they have a different kind of justice. False cases were foisted on me as I rebelled against Sonia.”

Jagan added, “It was Naidu who colluded with Sonia to put me in jail. For four years he was hand-in-glove with Sonia Gandhi to protect the Congress government. When I was in jail he joined hands with the Congress to divide the State. He gave a letter in support of the division. When I went on a fast in jail against the division they obstructed me.”

The YSRC chief recalled that TD MPs had voted in favour of the state’s division in Parliament and said that Mr Naidu was trying to cheat the people once again by making false promises.

He claimed that his father YSR was an example of credibility. He urged voters to elect YSRC candidate V. Bala Shoury for the LS and Mr Alla Rama Krishna Reddy from the Mangalagiri Assembly constituency. The road show was delayed by several hours at every centre and Jagan couldn’t reach Tenali for the next leg of the tour.
