YSR Congress leader Shobha Nagi Reddy dies in car crash
She was badly injured on her head and ribs when her car toppled over several times
Hyderabad: Hours after she was seriously injured in a road accident in Kurnool district on Wednesday night, YSR Congress leader and sitting legislator from Allagadda B. Shobha Nagi Reddy succumbed to her injuries in Care Hospital on Thursday.
She was badly injured on her head and ribs when her car toppled over several times on the Kurnool-Kadapa highway in a village a few kilometres from Allagadda, from where she was seeking re-election.
Allagadda police said that the driver applied brakes suddenly in order to evade a heap of paddy husk lying on the road. The car’s driver and the two gunmen accompanying the MLA were also injured and admitted to a hospital in Kurnool.
Despite the tragic death, the Election Commission has decided to go ahead with the Allagadda Assembly elections as scheduled.
The chief electoral officer Bhanwarlal cited a rule that said YSR Congress is not a recognised political party and elections can be countermanded only if the candidate of a recognised national or state party dies.
